Chapter Activities and Projects

RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE

The chapter collects pull tabs from aluminum cans for donation to chapters of Children of the American Revolution.  The tabs are recycled for the benefit of the Ronald McDonald House charity.  Ronald McDonald House provides a home away from home for families during the medical treatment of their seriously ill children.

SERVICE TO AMERICA

Honoring our country's veterans is important to our chapter.  We regularly contribute food and sundry items to the USO Center at San Diego Airport, and we provide a birthday cake each year to the VA Hospital in San Diego.

Chapter members place flags on veteran's graves at Valley Center Cemetery for Memorial Day and Veterans Day.

Members are in the process of computerizing Valley Center Cemetery's burial records.  There are over 2,000 known burials in the cemetery, including approximately 150 veterans dating back to the Civil War.  Once the records have been computerized and photos taken of all headstones, the information will be uploaded to Find-A-Grave.  After the initial project is complete, chapter members will update the cemetery's records and Find-A-Grave on a quarterly basis.

ST. STEPHEN'S CATHOLIC CHURCH THRIFT SHOP AND FOOD BANK

To benefit residents of Valley Center, chapter members donate items the church can sell through its thrift shop.  We also donate canned food and other food staples to its food bank.

WREATHS ACROSS AMERICA TM

To remember our country's fallen heroes, Center of the Valley Chapter works with and supports Wreaths Across America TM, whose mission is to provide holiday wreaths to veterans buried in cemeteries in all 50 states and overseas.  Each year, our chapter sponsors wreaths for Miramar National Cemetery, and we volunteer and participate in the national wreath laying ceremonies at Miramar in December of each year.
